Azad

Azad is the kingdom where most of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time events take place. It is ruled by the Sultan of Azad. This kingdom is famous for its great zoo and the Sultan's bird cage, noted by the Prince as one of the wonders of the world, he dreamed of visiting as a child. King Sharaman gives the hourglass with the Sands of Time to the Sultan as a present and when the Prince releases the sands from the hourglass, most of Azad's population are turned to sand monsters. Fortunately, the Prince reverses time as if that event has never happened.

Of particular interest for the game is Azad's elaborate system of traps, activated by the Prince, which ultimately proves an inconvenient for him rather than his enemies. Something worthy of interest are the mysterious corridors that lead the Prince to an unknown place, where he can improve his life bar. Their existence is not rationally explained, but the Prince does briefly return to it in The Two Thrones.
